Overview[]
Eyes of the Chronicler was a rather atypical gal game of epic proportions, with a gigantic and well-detailed world and a grandiose storyline. It boasted multiple romantic interests that one could aim for, and the illustrations were lovely too. The only flaw with game that one could pick was...it was unpopular.
According to Roel, there were many reasons for its unpopularity but he summarized it into two points:
- It was rated as PG.
- Its plot often proceeded in a sketchy manner.
Roel’s evaluation of this game was that it was outlandishly eccentric. The only reason why Roel was able to bring himself to continue playing this game was because he had an attachment to a incredibly handsome villain that shared a name with him, making it easier for him to immerse himself in the world.
There were 4 main capture targets, and just like most gal games, it started off with a common route before diverging into the independent routes of the chosen capture target in the later stages of the game.
Roel remembers the events of the game and knows that he is destined to die. In his attempts to prevent his death, he decides to become stronger and pluck out any death flags.
Main Character[]
The main character of the game was a fellow named Paul Ackermann. A prince carrying the bloodline of the Austine Empire, he went missing in the streets when he was still a child. It was only when he was sixteen that the royal intelligence network managed to find him. He was swiftly brought back to the royal palace to be inaugurated as a prince of the empire.
Paul also has two older brothers who were vying for the throne of Austine Empire. Having grown up on the streets, his lack of knowledge and etiquette swiftly led to his ostracization by the factions led by the other two princes. Eventually, Paul was sent off to the Country of Scholars, Brolne, to study.
Plot[]
The common route of the game started off with the main character arriving at the Country of Scholars, Brolne. He would soon meet numerous gorgeous young ladies there, embarking on an adventurous journey of heart-throbbing romance.
Once a female capture target was selected—this was also the point when the player finally went down a specific independent route—the main character, with his knowledge, fighting skills, and the aid of his girlfriend, would return back to his country to participate in the factional wars. In the end, he would overcome his two older brothers to take the crown for himself.
To summarize, it was a ‘from academy to vying for supremacy in the royal court’ plotline.
Capture Targets[]
There were a total of four capture targets in the game. Namely;
Alicia Ascart[]
Alicia Ascart was a spy that the Theocracy sent to Paul’s side, and her route was known for being hard to clear. Due to her beautiful appearance that appealed to the aesthetics of the players, she was often ranked amongst the top three in character popularity polls. She was the billboard of the game, which was also the reason why Roel remembered her clearly. In the storyline, even though Alicia was the adopted sister of Roel, she hated Roel deeply.
She hates Roel for three main points, as summarized by Roel:
- Roel had bullied Alicia from a young age. Due to his father doting on him excessively, he had been allowed to act as he pleased, and he exploited this authority to make Alicia’s life unbearable.
- Prior to being adopted into the Ascart House, Alicia was the sole daughter of a baron house. That baron had died in a battle while protecting Roel’s father.
- Roel gave Alicia away for certain benefits when the Ascart House fell. While no details were given, it was hinted that she was sold as a slave for her appearance.
Nora Xeclyde[]
Charlotte Sorofya[]
Lilian Ackermann[]
Events of the game[]
The game starts by showing Paul Ackermann, an illegitimate son of the Austine Empire, attempting to find his way to Saint Freya Academy. When crossing the road, he stops a carriage that Charlotte Sorofya was riding. This is the first encounter Paul had with Charlotte.
After finally reaching the academy, Paul is confronted by Austine princes. Only recently reaching Origin Level 5, he had below average combat prowess. With no way to defend himself, he had to be saved by Nora Xeclyde.
Later, he loses his money and starves for two days before fainting. He is found by Charlotte. While Charlotte hates Paul for his background, she helps him out of pity.
Paul did not join any of the factions in the academy. Instead, he started a neutral Request Club. From this club, he was able to find information about Roel Ascart, who in the game was an evil cultist. Roel Ascart, our MC, was no other than the boss of the Middle School Arc in Eyes of the Chronicler! Paul meets Alicia Ascart. Alicia was a spy that the Theocracy sent to Paul’s side.
Paul gets wind of the Bloody Envelope Incident thanks to the Request Club. The Request Club decided to take on the request and went around asking for Cheryl in the Academy. Paul found the "Book of Truth" insignia with Cheryl's name in the back. He believed that Cheryl really was kidnapped and so went to Lilian seeking help of her enforcement division. The Bloody Envelope Incident was a serial murder case by evil cultists consisting of a teacher of the Academy and evil cultists hiding in a wine cellar in the depths of the mountain. The teacher checked the student profiles to look for targets. Over a few years, 17 students became a victim of these murders. Lilian's Enforcement Division found the cellar and described it as a living hell. The sender of the letter was killed a few days after sending the letter after realizing that her life was in danger. The teachers and the evil cultists were able to escape. Because he was busy with the events of the Request Club, he did not participate in the tournament mentioned in the game.
Six years later, in the Middle School Arc, Alicia kills Roel for the way he treated her in the Ascart House. According to Roel, there were three main reasons why she hated him (stated above).
Paul, as the protagonist, helps in the battle. Charlotte and Lilian are said to have played relatively minor roles in the death of Roel Ascart. The player chooses which among the four capture targets to pursue once the battle is over. It is said that Nora is the hardest to pursue because of her sadism.
Paul, with his knowledge, fighting skills, and the aid of his girlfriend, would return back to his country to participate in the factional wars. In the end, he would overcome his two older brothers to take the crown for himself.
